Before becoming an actor Jared lived in San Antonio, Texas and attended James Madison High School. He was named a candidate for the year 2000 Presidential
Scholars Program. Jared started taking acting lessons when he was twelve years old, and went on to enter and win the 1999 Claim to Fame contest, sponsored by the Teen Choice Awards and
Niketown.
After winning, he was pursued by top talent and modeling agencies and is now represented by the same manager as Freddie Prinze Jr. During high school, he competed in drama
competitions, garnering regional, state and even national awards. He won the 2000 Presidential Scholar Award for the National Foundation for Advancement of the Arts in the theater competition that had
over 7,000 entrants.
After graduating in the year 2000 he moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue an acting career. Before joining Gilmore Girls, Padalecki filmed a pilot for NBC that was never
picked up. He planned to attend the University of Texas but changed his mind when he won the role of Dean on Gilmore Girls.
Most recently, Jared was awarded his own show, "Supernatural,"
in which he co-stars with Jensen Ackles. Jared and Riley Smith starred as two hunkalicious dudes in "New York Minute" (2004). That was followed by the Flight of the Phoenix" (2004), and
two horror movies "House of Wax" (2005) and Cry_Wolf" (2005).
